• What privacy options do you have available for my file, and how do I apply them?
"Privatization Levels" for your Family Tree Legends file are chosen in the OPTIONS > FILE OPTIONS dialog window. The privacy options provide you with the ability to limit the information available on living individuals when your file is published to the Internet (optional), you create reports or charts that include facts, or export to a GEDCOM file.
- "Standard Privatization" level lists only the name and sex of living individuals. All other information on living individuals is hidden from the view of anyone but the owner of the file.
- "First Name Privatization" is the same as Standard, except that the first name of every living individual will be changed to the word "Living". John Smith would change to Living Smith.
- "Full Privatization" removes all traces of living individuals. This includes name and sex, as well as ANY data whatsoever on living individuals.
- "No Privatization" displays all information on both living and dead individuals.
Please note:
An individual, or their documented parents, must contain a recorded birth date after 1900 to be considered "living" and have privatization options applied by the software.
• How is privacy calculated for a living person?
Family Tree Legends uses a number of checks to determine if an individual in your file is living. Mainly this is determined by the absence or presence of a death date, and the year of birth. Any individual with a birth date after 1900 with no date of death recorded is considered to be living.
