Navigate to the homepage of an existing individual in your file, and click on the “Notes” icon on the right-hand side of your screen.
• How do I add a family and/or marriage note to a couple in my file?
Navigate to the homepage of the desired couple or family, and click on the small “Notes” icon located just to the right of the Marriage fields in the data entry form.
• Is there a limit to the number of notes that I can enter for an individual?
No, there is no limit to the number of notes that you can enter for a given individual in your file.
• Is there a limit to the number of characters that I can include in note?
No, there is no limit to the number of characters that a note in your file can contain.
• Does Family Tree Legends support text formatting in notes?
Yes, the software can format text using standard Bold, Italic, and Underline formatting options. You can paste data from word processing programs such as Microsoft Word into the Note editor, and all RTF-compliant formatting will be preserved.
• Can I add notes to Sources?
Yes, you can add notes to sources, by clicking the Notes button in the Edit Source Detail window.
• How do I delete a note?
To delete a note, right-click on a Note’s title tab, and choose “Delete this note”.
• How do I mark a specific note as “private”?
At the bottom of the Notes input window, there is a checkbox labeled “This note is private”. Place a check in the box to enable privacy features for the selected note.
• How do I suppress notes from being displayed in my published file on the GenCircles web site?
Choose “OPTIONS > FILE OPTIONS > PRIVATIZATION > ADVANCED OPTIONS”. You can choose to mark all existing Notes to private, and to automatically mark all new notes entered in the future as private.
