• What types of charts can Family Tree Legends produce?
- Ancestor Chart: produces a chart outlining ancestors for the currently highlighted individual. Horizontal and vertical orientations are available.
- Descendant Chart: produces a chart outlining descendants for the currently highlighted individual. Horizontal and vertical orientations are available.
- Hourglass Chart: produces a chart outlining ancestors and descendants for the currently highlighted individual. Horizontal and vertical orientations are available.
- Bow-Tie Chart: produces a chart outlining the ancestors for the currently highlighted individual, displaying the father’s ancestors to the left, and the mother’s ancestor’s to right.
• How do I create a new Chart?
Family Tree Legends creates charts based on the individual that is currently selected / highlighted. Click the “Charts” icon in the Family Tree Legends toolbar.
• Can I adjust the look of charts?
Yes, to adjust the the look, and contents of a chart generated by Family Tree Legends you will need to access the program's "Chart Options" feature. You can do so by initially generating the chart, and then clicking on the purple "options" button on the right-hand side of the screen. A new window will open allowing you to customize the chart.
• How do I increase the number of generations displayed in a chart?

In your case you will want to increase the number of generations displayed in your chart. To do this, open the "Chart Options" window and increase the number in the box labeled "Number of Generations".
• How do I reduce the overall size of chart generated by Family Tree Legends?
You can adjust a chart's orientation and the size of the typefaces that are used in your charts. In addition, the number of facts included for each individual can be adjusted. Adjusting these settings can greatly reduce the number of pages that your chart is spread over. To do this you will need to access the "Chart Options" window. While viewing a chart, click on the purple "Options" button on the right-hand side of the screen (purple button with check boxes).
Another option to reduce the overall size of the chart is to export the chart to a PDF file, as 1 large page. After a PDF file is opened in the free Adobe Reader, it can be configured to "fit to page" when printing. In other words, the whole chart can fit on 1 page regardless of its original size in Family Tree Legends.
